BCPS High School Schedules-Legislative Update & Action

For Supporters of Hereford Works and BCPS High Schools that lost their schedules:
As you may know, members of Hereford Works, Dulaney PTA members, legislators and others are actively lobbying both the Maryland State Senate and House of Delegates for the passage of legislation in response to the recent schedule changes. As a result of these efforts, there are pending bills in both houses to require the Baltimore County School Board to hold public hearings and vote after an independent review of the Superintendent’s scheduling decision for Hereford HS and all high schools in Baltimore County

SUCCESS # 1 – the Senate Baltimore County Delegation has voted IN FAVOR of Senate Bill 123!!! Now it remains in the Senate Education, Health & Environmental Affairs Committee.

SUCCESS # 2 - Legislation was cross-filed in the House as House Bill 0407 by Delegate Susan Aumann and others.

SUCCESS # 3 – Delegate Steve Lafferty, Chair of House Baltimore County Delegation arranged for testimony from legislators, parents, and Dulaney PTA member. Next step is for Delegate Steve Lafferty to call for House Delegation vote.

Dear Senator Joan Carter Conway, Chair of Senate Education, Health, Environmental Affairs

I am a concerned citizen in Baltimore County. Recent High School schedule changes have dramatically impacted students’ education without input by teachers, faculty, parents, or students. Senate Bill 123 seeks to remedy this situation by requiring the Baltimore County Board of Education to reconsider the adverse scheduling decisions and hold public hearings to seek input from parents, teachers, students and citizens like me. I support SB 123, as amended, and ask that this bill move out of committee and hope you will support it. Thank you.

Dear Delegate Steve Lafferty, Chair House Baltimore County Delegation,

Please support House Bill 0407 and call for a vote to approve it. Thank you.
